Elk are sociable animals, easily adaptable to managed herds. With some patience, even wild elk will eat from your hand. Elk may be herded and, once captured, they adapt quickly to their new environment.
Elk breed very successfully in managed farms, averaging over 90% calving rates. Elk calves grow very quickly and are ready to thrive on their own in three to four months.
Another tremendous advantage of elk farming is that it has well established markets. Elk have been farmed in Asia for thousands of years. The demand for antler products for pharmaceutical use in Asia is even older. Venison is a traditional and highly desired food item in European markets, and elk meat (wapiti) is a scarce and superior type of venison. Elk trophies are one of the most sought-after goals for hunters, with demand far exceeding supply.
Bulls, cows, and calves are currently available for sale at Pea Ridge Elk Ranch. The bloodlines at Pea Ridge represent some of the finest champions anywhere.
